How To Make Ghost Cupcakes {Tutorial}

ghostcupcakekotc This is a tutorial I made 2 years ago for my other blog, Keeper of the Cheerios, but I thought it was a good fit for The Spotted Cake. The best part about this one it's made using items you can buy from the store.. HOWEVER now I would recommend for those that are more adventurous to make your own fondant. Check out our favorite Marshmallow Fondant Recipe, and also I would recommend making your own frosting as well.. BUT if you want quick and simple this is the way to go!

Here’s what you will need to make these halloween cupcakes:

1 box of cake mix, bake cupcakes as directed
1 container of chocolate frosting ( I used Betty Crocker Whipped Chocolate Frosting)
1 small package of Wilton’s fondant (Or you can make your own)
Drinking straw
A Large Oatmeal container lid

Pile the chocolate frosting onto your cupcakes (if you don't have a frosting decorator bag you can put your frosting into a sandwich bag and just cut the tip off).

Since the chocolate frosting is going to be covered by the fondant it doesn't have to be perfect but piling the frosting really high is important.
Roll your fondant out fairly thin but not so thin that you can see the frosting through the fondant.
When your fondant is rolled to the desired thickness, you’ll need to get out your oatmeal container lid (or something of similar size) and your straw.

After cutting out a large circle, you’ll need to use the straw to cut out 2 “eye” holes.

Carefully place the prepared fondant circle in the desired position over your chocolate frosted cupcake. Be careful not to push down at all on the fondant but you can form the fondant to lay the way you’d like. Your ghost cupcakes are now complete! Isn't that just too easy?! I would store these at room temp for no more than 2-3 days.

Peanut Butter Buttercream Frosting Recipe

This is absolutely hands down the best peanut butter frosting I've ever had. Paired with a delicious chocolate cake or cupcake and you have yourself an amazing cake combination that will wow anyone who's lucky enough to have the chance to eat it! I found this recipe on the Cake Central website and I have never been more in love with chocolate and peanut butter than I am now. I never realized how much just the right ingredients, frosting choice, and cake flavor combinations could make such a huge difference in my baking. I just don't think I can ever go back to store-bought frostings again!

Peanut Butter Buttercream Frosting

1 C. butter, softened
1 C. creamy peanut butter
3 C. powdered sugar
2 tsp. vanilla extract
3 TBSP heavy cream

Cream peanut butter and butter. Add powdered sugar and mix well on high speed for about 1 minute. Mix in vanilla and then add heavy cream and mix again on high speed for about 3 minutes.
