My First 3-tier Cake; A Pink & White Wedding Cake With Fondant Birds

This cake has kept me busy all week. It's the first time I've ever made a cake for anyone other than my own family. I think it turned out okay for it being my first ever 3-tier cake. I wanted it to be simple yet cute and I think I accomplished that.

I found a cute clay bird topper set online but it was on some strange site that didn't tell me who makes them or sells them so I just tried to mimic the look using fondant and concentrated icing color pastes. I made the pink roses with gum paste, which I know I messed up in a million different ways and I want to thank my children for stealing my gum paste flower shaped cutters and losing them so I had to mold those things by hand making every single petal myself. Lesson learned!

Anyways, here it is...

What do you think?

  1. It turned out lovely! Did you dust the roses with something to make them shiny?

  2. Oh wow!! It looks great!

It's too bad we don't live closer. I could concentrate on the baking and the flavors, and you could do all the decorating! We'd be rich. =)
